Our Behaviour Policy at Burlington:
In school we seek to recognise and reward good behaviour. We believe good behaviour is a major determinant of a happy and successful school. Good behaviour in our school is encouraged through positive reinforcement. What we mean by good behaviour ?
taking pride in ourselves, our work, our surroundings, and developing self-control
being kind and considerate
being polite and friendly
learning to respect one anothers feelings, thoughts and property
learning to co-operate and consider others as well as ourselves
being a good sport and team player
developing a calm and positive attitude to all our working activities
How we encourage good behaviour ?
recognise and reward good behaviour as it occurs
ensure that children are praised for behaving well
ensure that criticism is constructive
explain and demonstrate the behaviour we wish to see
encourage children to be responsible for their own behaviour
award badges and stickers
award work of the week certificates
a regular focus on good behaviour and achievement in assembly
award merits for good behaviour and work
award certificates for excellent conduct and excellent progress
What might happen if children behave badly?
a reprimand
loss of privilege such as a playtime
an extra work assignment may be given
separation in class
referral to the assistant head, deputy head or head teacher
report sent to parents
at lunchtime, receive a yellow warning card; if problems persist a
red exclusion card
be put on report and have behaviour carefully monitored (at this point
an individual education plan (I.E.P.) will be introduced )
dangerous or uncooperative behaviour in school may result in exclusion from school trips
exclusion from school.
