This year all children in the school are being taught by the music teacher.  Each year group is following the QCA schemes of work and are beginning to perform more regularly in assemblies to show their work and improve their performing skills.

Year 3 - Exploring descriptive sounds, Exploring rhythmic patterns, Exploring arrangements (create, combine and perform material as part of a class)

Year 4 - Exploring pentatonic scales, Exploring sound colours, Exploring singing games.  In terms 2 & 3 each child will learn to play the recorder.

Year 5 - Exploring rhythm and pulse (african & indian drumming), Exploring rounds, Exploring sound sources.

Year 6 - Exploring lyrics and melody (songwriter), Performing together (take part in a class performance with confidence and expression), Exploring musical processes (develop skills achieved in Years 5 & 6)

Learning an instrument

Children are given the opportunity to learn a new instrument in Years 3, 4, 5 - those which show interest are given a test and the peripatetic teachers make their selections.  After a year they are encouraged to join the orchestra to develop their playing and learn about performing with other children to an audience.

Outside performers

We have a good selection of groups which perform to the whole school - ranging from woodwind quartets, singers and brass groups which are kindly provided by English Camarata from the Lords Feoffees.  We have seen a great, varied programme which the children thoroughly enjoy.
