School Clubs: Chess Club

The chess club started in October 2003 over 2 lunchtimes, Tuesdays for years 5 and 6 and Thursdays for years 3 and 4. The children covered a range of abilities from competent players to complete beginners. All the children enjoyed the club and have learnt a lot especially from Mr Schorn a training teacher assisiant who is an experienced player. This year the club takes place after school each Thursday til 4.30 p.m. for Years 4, 5  & 6. We also have children from Year 7 come back to continue in the club.

Last year the school entered a national competition where children firstly played each other in an inter schools tournament, and those children who gained enough points went onto a regional final in York. We had 3 children who made it through to the regional final which included the winner of the schools tournament.
