 Literacy

During this Summer term classes 4, 5 and 6 will be exploring a range of fiction, for example; 'The Suitcase Kid' and 'Charlotte's Web'. They will also be focusing upon the features found in non-narrative texts, such as information texts. Furthermore, the children will continue with their phonics lessons.

 Numeracy

As last term, the children will be revisiting the topics they have already covered. They will be building upon their understanding to improve their existing knowledge. Each numeracy set will continue to have regular mental maths and multiplication quizzes to develop their mental arithmetic skills.

 History

'The Tudors' is the history topic for this term. Throughout the term the children will be learning about how the Tudors lived, the differences between rich and poor families, about Henry VIII and also about Tudor exploration. The children will also be going on a visit to Burton Agnes hall to explore our local history. This will be our main theme this half term as we will be using the Tudor theme in PE, Literacy and Art.

 Art

To accompany the topic of the Tudors, the children will be focusing upon some Tudor Art. Thus includes researching and recreating some pieces of work in the style of the Tudor artist Hans Holbein. They will also investigate different structures of chairs, and will design and create their own from clay.

 PE

In PE the children will be following a dance unit called 'Tudor Dance'. They will learn some small Tudor dance routines, this will give the children a better understanding of the work they are doing in history. In addition, the children will continue with their weekly games lessons; the activities will now be: Rounders, tennis and cricket.

 Science

Firstly, we will be investigating the topic 'Moving and growing'. By the end of the unit the children will be able to explain why we have a Skelton and what its job is, as well as being able to explain what muscles do. They will learn this topic through a variety of hands on activities.

After the half term the classes will investigate the topic 'Habitats', in which they will learn how to classify animals and how they are adapted to their
habitat.

 French

This term the children will focus upon the unit 'The four friends', and 'Growing things'. By the end of this term, the children will build upon their existing knowledge as well as being able to name some animals and simple verbs in French.

 SEAL

The theme for SEAL this half term is 'Relationships'. From this the children will explore friendships and relationships between children in the class.

 ICT

Throughout term Year 4 will use 'Powerpoint' and Google maps. It is hoped by the end of the term they will create a presentation using 'PowerPoint' about our local area.

 DT

During the second half of the summer term, the children will take part in a D&T week. Throughout the week, the children will design and make a pop up book for younger children. This will give the children the opportunity to combine their literacy and D&T skills.

Finally, we would like to remind you that PE is an important aspect of the curriculum, and therefore children need to bring their PE kits to all lessons. If for any reason your child cannot partake, please send a letter into school so that they can be excused from the lesson. All of the children have a copy of the timetable in their merit books, this will outline when their PE kit is required.
