Curriculum Overview
During this autumn term, year 5 will be studying Britain since 1930, with particular emphasis on world war two.
In order to enhance this topic much of our work will be cross curricular:
In Literacy we will be studying 'War Boy' by Michael Foreman. In music we will be singing and listening to songs and music from that period.
We will also be visiting Eden Camp on wednesday 8th October where we can take a real look at what life was like during the war.
On wednesday 15th October Mrs Johnson will be here with a taste of history. She will be demonstrating how to make some of the dishes that may have been eaten during the 2nd world war, as well as giving the children an opportunity to take part and taste a variety of these foods.
We also plan to have a day where we are 'in role', re'enacting life during those turbulent times.
In science this term we will be focussing on gases all around and changing state.
In art, children will be looking at artists who paint or draw still life. They will create and decorate a clay container for an ancient Greek god and will explore the paper cut out work of Matisse to create their own colourful abstract collages from paper and fabric.
